Here is a VERY revealing interview with Neil Peart from the Signals tour, which appeared in the premiere (July 1983) issue of Ireland's Feedback! Rock Interviews magazine. Neil appeared on the cover, and is in prime form in this interview where he explains how catering to fans who want them to return to their older style of music would be tantamount to being "just another formula top-forty band".  He also explains why they don't play just their hits on tour, why they stopped playing the smaller towns in the UK, and also sheds light on the deeper meanings of many of his songs.
