Transcript: 'Rush To Play And Help Canadian Rockers Are Into Making A Difference, Not Backslapping' - Wichita Eagle, May 23, 1992

I have transcribed 'Rush To Play And Help Canadian Rockers Are Into Making A Difference, Not Backslapping', a brief story from the May 23, 1992 issue of The Wichita Eagle. A unique interview with Alex Lifeson, it was given shortly after Rush played Berlin for the first time after the wall came down, and also includes his comments on how Rush quietly raised thousands of pounds of food for the United Way, and his thoughts on high-profile rock benefits "It's a wonderful thing that artists get involved, but at the same time there's a lot of backslapping and 'aren't we wonderful?'"

Transcript: 'I Love Phil (Neil Peart on Phil Collins)' - Rhythm, April 2011

I've just transcribed a half page article from the April issue of Rhythm magazine, titled "I Love Phil" by Neil Peart. Part of a spotlight on Phil Collins, Neil looks back on how he was inspired by Phil including seeing Genesis in concert before he joined Rush, and includes a couple of interesting anecdotes on how "Phil and I have actually encountered each other face-to-face, unknown to him, on two occasions, almost 20 years apart".

Transcript: 'Rush: Three Smart Rockers Loosen Up And Have Some Fun' - Boston Globe, December 6, 1991

As it has been awhile since I've added a transcript, here's a long lost but short interview with Neil Peart given during the Roll The Bones tour, from the December 6, 1991 edition of the Boston Globe. In 'Rush: Three Smart Rockers Loosen Up And Have Some Fun', Neil talks about his favorite subject, the "soul-destroying" tedium of touring, which he remarks that if unchecked can lead to a sense of alienation and in turn lyrics like those put forth by Roger Waters of Pink Floyd.

Transcript: "Open Ears: On The Road With Rush, Parts One and Two" - Guitar For The Practicing Musician, July & August 1986

Back in August 2013, I transcribed Part One of "Open Ears: On The Road With Rush" from the July 1986 issue of Guitar For The Practicing Musician, and included the plea for someone that might come forward with Part Two, as it appeared in the subsequent August issue. Well four years later my plea has been answered. A huge thank you to Marrije Essink, the admin of www.facebook.com/groups/stevemorse, for providing Part Two. I've updated my transcript to include both parts, enjoy!

Transcript: '10 Ways to Sound Like Neil Peart' - Drum!, June 2016

Today marks two years to the day that Rush played its final concert on the R40 tour. I was reminded of this recently when putting together my latest transcript addition, '10 Ways to Sound Like Neil Peart' from the June 2016 issue of Drum! magazine. As the intro reads, 'At the conclusion of the final show of the tour, at the Forum in Los Angeles, Neil Peart did something he'd never done before, joining bandmates Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson downstage and waving, seemingly, to Rush fans everywhere.' The article goes on to cite 10 aspects of Neil Peart's greatness both as a drummer and as a human being, that one must adhere to to sound like like him. In other words, he's one of a kind... - Thanks to John Patuto for sharing the transcript.

'Dear Guitar Hero - Alex Lifeson of Rush' - Guitar World, March 2004

I've just transcribed 'Dear Guitar Hero - Alex Lifeson of Rush' from the March 2004 issue of Guitar World magazine.  Among other things Alex defends Bryan Adams and remembers the opening night in Hartford on the Vapor Trails tour.  This was likely Alex's last Q&A before his New Year's Eve at the Ritz, as he wasn't asked about it here (lucky him). - Thanks to rushfanforever for providing the original article.

Time for a makeover!

First admission - I am not a website designer. I started the Power Windows website almost 20 years ago when I was tasked to put together a simple website for the job I had at the time. To get my feet wet in website design, I first created this Rush website as a means to share Rush wallpaper. This was back in 1998 when the internet was a dull place and there were very few Rush resources out there, and even fewer Rush images. I know what I like to see on a website, however, and basically pieced it together as I went along. I used my site to serve my Rush addiction, and accordingly it has grown significantly over the years.

For the last 19 years things have gone fairly smoothly until I started getting complaints that my site wasn’t “mobile friendly”. What? Mobile friendly? “Who cares” was my knee jerk response, but as this happened more and more frequently I realized I either had to close up shop for good or do a site redesign.

Obviously I opted for the redesign and it has taken months to finish, but before I began I thought about how I could make things more simple. My old site had stuff for any given album spread out into various pages. Now, everything for a given album (or video) release is found on that album’s page. There you will find not only the linernotes and lyrics, but also the tourbook (if there is one), desktop wallpaper, themes, and more. I drew the line at chopping up the Transcript Archive, as there are many articles that are not album specific that couldn’t be pigeonholed into any given album’s page. It’s a complete redesign, truly, but it still is not quite done - my News page is on Google’s “Blogger” platform and needs lots of work, but that will have to wait.

So there you have it, I hope it works. Oh, and it’s mobile friendly…
