13 years ago today, Rush played Jones Beach at Wantagh, New York, on the Vapor Trails tour.  My latest transcript is "Rush Captures The Beach" a concert review of that night's show from the July 30, 2002 issue of New York's Good Times music paper.

Transcript: 'Presto - Hybrid SACD Edition Review' - Classic Rock, October 2014

One year ago today, the Audio Fidelity Sound Labs Gold CD edition of Presto was released.

To mark the occasion I have transcribed this 'Presto - Hybrid SACD Edition Review' which is subtitled "In transit between genres, Rush go goth-pop" from the October 2014 issue of Classic Rock. I have a copy of this release, and think it sounds fantastic!

Transcript: 'Rush Regroups, Celebrates 'Victory' And A New Album' - Boston Herald, July 10, 2002

My latest transcript was published 13 years ago today. 'Rush Regroups, Celebrates 'Victory' And A New Album' is an interview with Alex Lifeson from the July 10, 2002 edition of the Boston Herald, two days before their stop at Boston's Tweeter Center early on the Vapor Trails tour. Of their three hour show, Alex says "When I saw Tool, I think they only played for about an hour and 20 minutes, and I know some friends went to see Creed and they played 58 minutes; and I thought 'Boy, move over kids and let the grownups show you how to do it.'"

Transcript: "Neil Peart Of Rush" - Feedback! Rock Interviews, July 1983

Here is a VERY revealing interview with Neil Peart from the Signals tour, which appeared in the premiere (July 1983) issue of Ireland's Feedback! Rock Interviews magazine. Neil appeared on the cover, and is in prime form in this interview where he explains how catering to fans who want them to return to their older style of music would be tantamount to being "just another formula top-forty band".  He also explains why they don't play just their hits on tour, why they stopped playing the smaller towns in the UK, and also sheds light on the deeper meanings of many of his songs. It really is a must read interview!

Feedback was released 11 years ago today and I have just transcribed 'Rush For Cover: After 17 Albums, Canadian Rockers Record The Hits Of Their Favorite Bands', from the June 28, 2004 edition of Denver's Rocky Mountain News. You'll want to read this one for two reasons; 1) interviewed the day before Feedback was released, Geddy Lee talks about attempting and failing at recording songs by Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin, and 2) published the day before Rush's first performance at Red Rocks, it includes Geddy's eager comments about playing there for the first time.

Transcript: "Rush Dedicates Newest Album To Rod Serling" - St. Catharines Standard, October 10, 1975

Rod Serling, creator of the television series The Twilight Zone, passed away on this day in 1975.  Released the following September, Rush's third album Caress of Steel was "dedicated to the memory of Mr. Rod Serling" as told in my newest transcript.  Published October 10, 1975 in Neil Peart's home town newspaper the St. Catharines Standard shortly after the release of the album, "Rush Dedicates Newest Album To Rod Serling" includes a few comments from the band which demonstrate an early dedication to their craft: "We want to make it by turning people on to us at concerts and through our albums," Geddy points out. Tonight Rush is playing the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.  Time travel back 29 years with my latest transcript, "The Rushians Are Coming" a review of the Rush & Marillion concert at Newark's Brendan Byrne Arena on the Power Windows tour, which appeared in the July 1986 issue of Creem Metal Close-Up. A detailed review, the writer did an excellent job capturing many details of the show.

Clockwork Angels was released three years ago today.  I've just transcribed Guitarist magazine's review of Clockwork Angels from their August 2012 issue where they gave it 4 out of 5 stars. "Rush channel the progressive impulse that made albums such as 2112 and Moving Pictures such masterpieces. Intelligent, heavy and accessible, Clockwork Angels is right up there with them."

39 years ago today, Rush played the first of three nights for what would become perhaps the greatest live album ever recorded, "All The World's A Stage", but what did Rush's hometown newspaper think about the performance? How awesome are Rush? Not only are they fantastic musicians, but they also are fantastic humanitarians.  Seven years ago today, Rush played the MTS Center in Winnipeg on the Snakes & Arrows tour, and donated $100,000 of their concert ticket sales to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Transcript: "Rush At Wembley!" - Toronto Star, May 22, 1983

"Rush started it all years ago. They proved England was another market for North Americans." 32 years ago today, Rush played the first of four nights at London's Wembley Arena on the Signals tour.  My latest transcript is "Rush At Wembley!", a hometown review published the day after the four night stand concluded, from the May 22, 1983 issue of the Toronto Star. The reviewer focuses on the increase of Canadian rock bands' touring success in the UK.

Snakes And Arrows was released 8 years ago today, and to commemorate the event I've added a new transcript featuring an interview of Alex Lifeson with Martin Popoff from the September 2007 issue of Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles magazine. Titled 'Fate's Warning', Alex talks in depth about writing and recording Snakes & Arrows.  Also included is the magazine's review of the album where it received a 9 out of 10.

Transcript: 'Rush Video Victim Of Own High-Tech Pomp, Gadgetry' - Toronto Star, March 19, 1989

Last week saw the 27th anniversary of the filming of the A Show of Hands concert video, and my latest transcript, 'Rush Video Victim Of Own High-Tech Pomp, Gadgetry', is a critical review of the eventual release from the March 19, 1989 edition of the Toronto Star. Writer Greg Quill has shown he is a Rush fan in other press reviews, but in this one, he is very down on the overall direction, production and editing of the concert film, which he sums up with "the pity is that in the hands of a director with some understanding of the depth and breadth of Rush, this video could have been so much more."

Average screen sizes are getting larger, including the one used by yours truly, and after some consideration I took some time over the weekend to reformat my primary portal pages for the album Discography, Videography, Books, and Tour Archive pages.  With larger screens, you'll see more data choices with better cover placement.  At the same time, I kept the design compatible for those with smaller screen sizes, to avoid any conflicts.  Enjoy!

He also mentions the band's then current plans of recording a live album after Permanent Waves, and a tour of Japan in late 1980....

Here is a new transcript which I for one found very informative. From 1986, check out Neil Peart with Jim Ladd on Innerview. Neil goes into detail regarding the meaning of some of the songs on Power Windows, and I found his explanation of what he was trying to convey, especially with Territories and Emotion Detector, to be very illuminating.

My latest transcript is 'Rush Rolls With More Organic Sound; Latest Set A 'Reaction Against Technology'', an interview with Geddy Lee from November 23, 1991 issue of Billboard magazine. Geddy talks about the maturing process that followed Hold Your Fire, the conscious decision to move away from the synthesizers and computers when recording Roll The Bones, and working with producer Rupert Hine.

Transcript: "The Rush Dilemma!" - RockLine! July 1984

This week sees the 31st anniversary of the release of Grace Under Pressure, and to mark the event I've transcribed "The Rush Dilemma!" from the July 1984 issue of RockLine! magazine.  It asks a question which long time fans already know the answer to, and that is if Rush's "sound" circa-Grace Under Pressure was crafted for commercial success, or if they were "just going wherever the music takes them?" The article also reminds us of the fact that Rush was an early pioneer of the "Laserium" shows.

My latest transcript is 'Rush's Signals Change, Maybe', a review of Signals from the October 14, 1982 edition of the Stanford University Daily newspaper. A knowledgeable review, the writer justly places the album in the annals of Rush: "...a combination of their new instrumental order and smooth, edgeless production makes the album Rush's most accessible and salable, a somewhat saddening departure for older loyalists and a point of entry for new converts yet to discover their earlier work." - Thanks to John Harrison for sending the original article!

The Moving Pictures: Deluxe Edition was released on this day in 2011.  My latest transcript is a review of the reissue from the June 2011 issue of the UK's "Record Collector". In "Rush Brushed Up", the reviewer hits the nail on the head with "it's scary, because we can clearly remember it coming out first time round, and can recall with equal clarity how contemporary we thought Rush sounded on it."
